A popular Bury St Edmunds cinema manager is offering a telephone befriending service to help customers struggling with isolation and loneliness during lockdown.

Pat Church, semi-retired front of house manager at Abbeygate Cinema, will be on the end of the phone to have a chat with people between 2pm and 4pm on Mondays.

Cinema bosses hope the 'Chat with Pat' service will help relieve the 'Monday lockdown blues' for customers who are struggling.

Andrea Holmes, marketing manager, said: "Many of our regulars fall into the vulnerable category and their wellbeing will undoubtedly be impacted by a second lockdown.

"Pat has been chatting to lots of customers over recent weeks, many having only just started to come to the cinema again, their confidence building when they have seen the Covid-secure measures we have in place and this idea was born from Pat’s wish to help ease the isolation for our regular customers which a second lockdown might bring.

"Pat has a wealth of knowledge about the cinema and is a great story teller.

"What better way to take away the Monday lockdown blues? Enjoy a ‘Chat with Pat’."

Anyone who would like to ‘chat with Pat’ to help ease the loneliness and isolation the second lockdown might bring, can phone Pat on 01284 754477 on Mondays between 2pm to 4pm.
