An agricultural and country life show is bringing the flare, food and fun to a racecourse near a Suffolk town today.
The South Suffolk Show, which is in its 136th year, is at Ampton Racecourse, near Bury St Edmunds, offering a packed timetable including daredevil shows, farm demonstrations and live music.
The Imps Motorcycle Display, the world’s premier military style display team, will light up the grand ring with their drills of precision and skills on bikes, while 4 Strides Equestrian UK will demonstrate the speed, agility and athleticism of rodeo with barrel racing.
Outside the performance arena, guests can see farriers in the forge, gun dogs working, pigs racing and live music alongside farm machinery old and new, while 3 Sixty Bicycle Stunt Team will show off their tricks on wheels.
The lifestyle marquee will be packed with traders, while visitors will be able to choose from a plethora of specially-selected vendors in the food hall.
Four-legged friends, which are welcome at the show, will be catered for with a dog show run by Pooch’s Yard, of Thetford.
Entries can be made on the day, with categories including waggiest tail and shiniest coat.
President for the 136th show is Rose Turner, whose family have hosted the event at Ampton since 1986.
A horse lover, Mrs Turner has worked with the Suffolk Horse Society to create a ‘Suffolk Spectacular’, with a selection of Suffolk heavy horses invited into the grand ring to demonstrate how they have become icons of our county.
Show organisers said last year’s fresh measures to improve traffic flow into the show had worked well and would be retained, while this year they have also taken steps to reduce queues at the public bar.
There will be a bigger bar in the picnic area and a second, complete with a viewing platform, in Eat Street.
