Our Bury St Edmunds’ Motorsport East 2022 set to fuel the passion of fans young and old
Motorsports fans will be quick off the grid today to get to Bury St Edmunds town centre for free family entertainment at the Our Bury St Edmunds Motorsport East event.
After the success of last year's show, sites across the town will have more cars, sporting vehicles and hands on activities for motorheads new and old to get to grips with.
The Cornhill and Buttermarket will be filled with more than 65 competition cars representing many disciplines of motorsport, all curated by well-known local rally cross commentator and Bury Free Press motorsport columnist Arthur Debenham.
Among the star exhibits scheduled is a Ford Escort RS 1700T driven by former Rallycross driver Brian Betteridge.
The car is the only running example of its make left in the world, having been built as a prototype, and has recently been restored and returned to the UK from South Africa.
Also displaying will be Krazy Horse – well known to many motorbike enthusiasts in and around the town – showing a selection of their Morgan and Caterham sports cars and insurance company A-Plan with a Ferrari and Rolls Royce for visitors to admire.
There will be a array of stands on site as well, including the the Anglia Motor Sport Club (AMSC) where there will be Women in Motorsport ambassador and club development officer Laura Cooledge,
In her role as an ambassador for AMSC, which includes West Suffolk, Laura will be promoting grassroots motorsport to try to encourage more people – particularly women – to get involved.
She feels visibility is an important part of girls and women even seeing the sport as an option.
Other stands will include Nethergate brewery and Papaki’s Deli, if you need a pit stop, with the town's other shops open as usual.
If you prefer to get behind the wheel that just be a spectator, there is a rare opportunity to drive a Stealth Formula 1 Racer simulator and, for the children, Bumper Carz, in the arc shopping centre's Charter Square.
Whether you just enjoy having a bit of fun or have more of a competitive streak, there will also be gift card prizes for the three podium places of the simulator to be won.
Mark Cordell, chief executive of Our Bury St Edmunds, said: "Motorsport East is a chance to bring the family to a fun and free day out. If you have dreamed of living life in the fast lane then this is the event for you, to find out more go to www.ourburystedmunds.com."
