Bury St Edmunds Newmedica eye health clinic and surgical centre is on the move to new premises in Kempson Way

A Bury St Edmunds eye health unit is set to move to new, bigger premises next month.

The Newmedica Bury eye health clinic and surgical centre which currently operates from Lawson Place, on the Moreton Hall estate, is poised to move less than a mile away to bigger premises.

Last week, West Suffolk Council planners granted advertisement consent for various illuminated and non-illuminated signs at Newmedica’s new site at Ross House, in Kempson Way, near the John Banks car dealership.

The current Lawson Place centre, led by consultant ophthalmologists Raj Hanspal and Usman Hussain, alongside operational director Rosemary Smith, provides services for NHS and private patients Monday to Friday, 8.30am-5pm.

According to planning documents the new centre could open earlier in the morning and into the evening – with appointments between 7am and 8pm – with the illuminated signage helping to guide patients to the site.

Ground floor plans for the new facility include a large waiting room, laser room, treatment room, three consultation rooms, six diagnostics rooms and three administration rooms.

Upstairs, on the first floor, the layout includes a theatre, scrub area and utility rooms, along with theatre admissions and theatre consultation rooms, waiting areas, as well as patient pre-op and post-op lounges, administration rooms, meeting rooms, a staff room and male and female changing areas.

There were no objections to the signage plans.

The move to Ross House is expected to take place on November 25.
