Wychem factory near Haverhill evacuated and man injured after hazardous materials incident
A man was injured and a Suffolk factory evacuated after emergency services were alerted to an incident involving hazardous materials.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service was called at 11.55am to chemical manufacturer Wychem on the A143, in Stradishall, with five crews from Haverhill, Bury St Edmunds and Wickhambrook attending.
A fire service spokesman said there was a chemical reaction involving a solvent which caused a 'flashover' and a 56-year-old man suffered superficial burns to his face, shoulders and back.
The man was taken to hospital for treatment by the ambulance service and the factory was evacuated.
Fire crews left the scene by 12.27pm.
