Family moving home fined £900 after police stop overweight van on A14 in Bury St Edmunds




A family who were moving home have been fined £900 after their van was stopped by police on the A14 for being over the legal weight limit.

The van was spotted on the A14 in Bury St Edmunds travelling eastbound at 2.10pm on Wednesday, January 6.

The van was found to be over the legal weight limit by 260kg/15 per cent on the front axle, 572kg/25 per cent on the rear axle and 1,232kg/35 per cent overall.

In a tweet, Norfolk and Suffolk Roads and Armed Policing Team said the rear tyres were 'also unsuitable'.

They added the family were moving home and had to arrange another van to take the excess weight.

A Suffolk Police spokesman said a £900 fine was issued.
