Everyone Active figures showed more than 3,000 used gyms and pools in Mid Suffolk in first week

More than 3,000 used gyms and swimming pools in Mid Suffolk in the first week after reopening.

Provider Everyone Active has welcomed the surge in activity following the latest checkpoint in the Government's road map for reopening. Centre managers said activity was higher than when facilities opened after the last lockdown ended.

Anselm Gurney, contract manager at Everyone Active, said: “The numbers through the doors showed that members are keen to get active again. We’re so pleased to see so many new and returning members using our centres following our reopening.

“We’ve had an overwhelmingly positive response from customers, who are delighted to be able to exercise in an indoor, Covid-safe environment once more."

In the first week (from April 12) 2,196 people used the gym at Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre, compared to 1,167 who returned straight away last time. At Stradbroke Swim and Fitness Centre, 415 people attended the gym, compared to 282 last time.

When swimming pools are taken into account, it gives a total of 3,044 users - an 80 per cent increase from those returning after the last lockdown.

Mr Gurney said: "We will continue to ensure the safety of customers and colleagues by meeting and exceeding Government guidance and look forward to welcoming more members of the community soon.”
