The Bury St Edmunds Christmas events replacing the annual fayre




This year the famous Bury St Edmunds Christmas Fayre has been replaced by a series of festive events which will include a beer festival and gift fair.

There will be something for everyone at Christmas markets at St Edmundsbury Cathedral and the arc shopping centre.

Children will get the chance to meet a polar bear, ride the Victorian carousel and take a selfie outside a giant gingerbread house.

St Edmundsbury Cathedral Christmas Market

The market at the cathedral in Bury St Edmunds starts today, Thursday, November 24, and runs to Sunday, November 26, with doors open daily between 10am - 4.30pm.

Stallholders from across Suffolk will be selling everything from baked goods to jewellery.

The market is free to enter and organisers said it will give visitors the opportunity to take in the beautiful surroundings of the cathedral.

As well as the shopping opportunity, there will be daily entertainment to get people in the Christmas spirit.

On Saturday Inka the polar bear will be making three appearances on the cathedral garth at noon, 2pm and 3pm.

Families will be able to have their photograph taken with the friendly polar bear and her clubs.

Bury St Edmunds Winter Beer Festival 2022

The Bury St Edmunds Winter Beer Festival 2022, will take place between Friday, November 25 to Sunday, November 27.

Anyone that fancies a festive tipple should head to the Constitutional Club in Guildhall Street, where they will be able to try more than 20 ales, craft ales and ciders.

The festival, organised by the West Suffolk branch of Camra, is free to enter and guests will get get a glass and programme on arrival.

American-style fast food will also be available.

Christmas at the arc Shopping Centre

An exciting line-up of festive traders will be setting up at the arc from Friday November 24, through to December 22.

The stalls at the arc will be open from 9am to 5.30pm and will sell Christmas treats, including food and drink.

Children will be able to take a spin on the traditional Victorian carousel and also have their photograph taken outside a giant gingerbread house.

The Apex Gift Fair

The Apex Gift Fair will be open on Friday, November 25 and Saturday, November 26, between 10am - 6pm and on Sunday, November 27 between 10am - 4pm.

Upstairs at the Apex children will be able enjoy Christmas storytelling, giving parents the chance to grab a coffee or mulled wine as they listen.

There will be more than 50 local arts and crafts stall set up in the Apex, making it the perfect Christmas shopping opportunity.

Eco conscious Christmas and regular street market

On Saturday, November 26, Bury St Edmunds weekly market will have a Dickensian theme, which will feature street entertainers and music.

You may even spot Mr Scrooge, Mr Scratchit and the Artful Dodger on their penny farthings.

The town's regular market traders and street food area will also be setting up in the Buttermarket and Cornhill on Sunday, November 27.

Joining the traders will be stallholders offering tips and ideas on how to celebrate Christmas in a 'simpler and cost effective way'.

Stallholders will show shoppers how they can make their own cards, decorations and wrapping paper and also give people ideas for upcycled gifts.
