Bury St Edmunds fire crews called as lightning strikes Moreton Hall estate home
Firefighters were sent to the Moreton Hall estate, in Bury St Edmunds, after a lightning strike tonight.
A sudden thunder storm saw two crews from Bury St Edmunds dispatched at 9.53pm.
Lightning had struck a home, causing considerable damage to the roof.
Dale Nunn, Bury Fire Station manager, said everyone who lived there was safe, while firefighters had checked the house thoroughly.
“We have had crews go into the roof space with thermal imaging to check there were no fires inside,” he said.
“As you can see, it caused considerable damage to the roof, which went through to the bedroom.”
The lightning strike blew out the electricity on the home’s ground floor, while a resident who lives further up the road said the lightning strike had caused a power cut to his home.
“We are going to stay here for a little while to see if we can put a sheet over the roof damage to protect from the rain,” added the station manager.
A further three crews were sent to a separate incident nearby, which turned out to be a false alarm.
