Firefighters battled a huge house fire in Finningham last night.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service was called at 9.08pm to the large detached house fire in Gislingham Road.

Sixteen fire engines rushed to the incident and many roads in the village were closed.

A Suffolk Fire and Rescue spokesman said: " Crews were sent from Eye, Elmswell, Diss along with an aerial ladder from Bury St Edmunds.

"Upon arrival to scene crews found one wooden structured building well alight and involved in fire.

"Further appliances were sent to assist from Stowmarket, Needham Market, Haverhill, Stradbroke, Ixworth, Woodbridge and Harleston.

"Crews used the aerial ladder along with two 45mm jets and one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire."

They were also supported by crews from Norfolk.

The fire was under control by 11.06pm.
