Engineers fix power cut in Bury St Edmunds town centre after fire service called to suspected gas leak




Engineers have fixed a power cut affecting properties in Bury St Edmunds town centre after firefighters were called to a suspected gas leak.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service was called at 8.47am to a house, in Bishops Road, following reports of 'a strong smell of what was thought to be gas'.

Two crews from Bury attended and a suspected gas leak was initially identified with the road closed.

Cadent was called and confirmed the incident was not gas related.

A UK Power Networks spokeswoman said the power cut was reported at 8.44am and there was a fault on an underground electricity cable

Engineers worked to repair the fault to restore electricity to 19 properties in Bishops Road.

The power was restored at 8.55pm.

She said: "We would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused."
