Multiple flood warnings and alerts across Suffolk still in wake of Storm Babet
Flood notices remain in place today across Suffolk after Storm Babet lashed the county over the weekend.
A total of 11 warnings and alerts have been listed by the environment agency across the county.
A flood warning is where flooding is ‘expected’, whilst an alert signals where it is ‘possible.’
The River Gipping from Needham Market to London Road Bridge in Ipswich has a flood warning in place, with the river rising steadily in response to previous rainfall, with the most at risk areas being Great Blakenham, Claydon, Bramford and Sproughton.
An alert is also place for surrounding areas, including Little Blakenham, Akenham and Coddenham.
Another warning is in place nearby, for the River Lark from Clopton to Martlesham, inlcuding areas such as Grundisburgh and the Bealings; the Environment Agency is advising residents to avoid walking or driving through flood water.
An alert to the Rivers Deben and Lark also encompasses these areas, covering Tuddenham St Martin, Wickham Market, Brandeston and Debenham.
A warning has been issued for the River Waveney from Bungay to Ellingham, including areas such as Earsham and Ditchingham.
The Waveney has a separate warning in place from Bungay to Diss, with areas including Homersfield, Mendham and Roydon at risk.
A similar alert is also in place The Waveney and River Dove to Ellingham, including Bungay and Mendlesham.
Just outside of Thetford a warning has been issued for Shropham, East Harling and Shadwell, all encompassed by the River Thet, with a similar alert encompassing the Thet as well as the Litle Ouse River, potentially affecting areas including Elmswell, Ixworth, Euston and Thetford itself.
Around the Stowmarket area, an alert is in place for the Rattlesden River and River Gipping, with at risk areas including, Onehouse, Combs Ford and Rattlesden itself.
Towards East Suffolk, tidal River Waveney from Ellingham to Breydon Water has an alert issued for areas including Beccles Quay, Somerleyton and Oulton Broad, where the troublesome Potter’s Bridge is located.
Multiple roads were closed across the weekend as a result of Storm Babet, with many scenes of severe flooding unfolding across the county.
Just outside of Ipswich, between Burstall and Hintlesham, the A1071 is listed as being impassible.
