Flood warnings for Christmas drivers this weekend

Drivers trying to make their way around the country this weekend in time for Christmas are being warned to check their routes in advance after a number of flood warnings were put in place.

More than 90 flood warnings and around 230 flood alerts -where flooding could be possible- have been put up today (Saturday, December 21) across England following days of heavy rain.

On top of those, heavy rain is expected to continue in southern England until midday on Sunday.

For those making journeys there are warnings of travel delays, with some places expecting around 30mm of rain.

Some rail lines have also been blocked due to the severe weather and a fire crew from Elmswell has already been called to a flooding incident at Coddenham Road, Needham Market, with more expected to follow.

Highways England has advised drivers to slow down, keep well back from other motorists and if steering is unresponsive to ease off the accelerator.
