Roads across Suffolk closed due to flooding including in Bury St Edmunds, Sudbury, Needham Market and Stowmarket




As the county wakes up to significant flooding we will be keeping you updated with a list of the roads that have been closed due to heavy rainfall.

Areas badly affected include Stowmarket and Needham Market and closures on the A14 have added to problems for drivers using the A14.

Flood-prone spot Compiegne Way in Bury St Edmunds remains closed this morning both ways, between the A134 and Hollow Road. This is leading to delays around the town’s Sugar Beet Factory.

Lower Road in Lavenham is closed again following flooding earlier this week and the A1088 between Elmswell and Norton is waterlogged.

According to the AA map, Barking Road between Needham Market and Barking is closed as well as the A145 London Road, near Southwold, both ways from B1124 Halesworth Road to Stoven Road.

The Street, in Lidgate, near Newmarket, is impassable due to flooding both ways from B1085 to The Belt.

Nowton Road, in Bury St Edmunds, is closed both ways between Mayfield Road and Copper Lane.

The exit ramp on the A14 eastbound at junction 46 has also been closed, and contractors are en route to clear the flood water.

Fire crews are responding to flooding across Suffolk and Suffolk Highways have confirmed emergency road closures are in place in the following areas:

-Bullen Lane in Bramford

-Church Road in Old Newton

-Finborough Road in Stowmarket

-Coddenham Road in Needham Market

-Bullen Lane in Bramford

-Flowton Road in Flowton

-The exit ramp is closed on the A11 Northbound at the A1304 London Road, Six Mile Bottom

-Coddenham Road (B1078) both ways from Lion Lane to Needham Lake car park

- A1017 Ridgewell Road is closed both ways from Station Road to the A1092 Mill Road.

Suffolk Highways said: “Emergency road closures are in place due to severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall overnight.”

Some schools in the county have also been forced to close due to the weather.

Other roads in Suffolk are not closed but remain flooded. Those include:

- Potters Bridge, Southwold

- Flordon Road/Jacks Green Road, Needham Market
