New Our Bury St Edmunds Christmas Trail set to launch on November 18

A new trail not only offers a safe and fun way to enjoy Bury St Edmunds during the festive season, but the chance to win a share of a £500 prize bundle.

The Our Bury St Edmunds Christmas Trail, in partnership with HSBC UK, has compiled the 12 days of Christmas-themed trail, which launches on November 18, the same day as the Christmas lights switch-on event.

Participants need only their phone to either scan QR codes or send a text to participate.

The trail is app-free without the need for players to download or sign up.

After visiting all 12 locations around the town participants can be automatically entered into a prize draw to win one of 14 Our Bury St Edmunds gift cards, including a top prize worth £100.

Mark Cordell, Our Bury St Edmunds chief executive, said: “We’ve been organising themed trails in the town centre for many years and we know how much visitors and residents absolutely love them. Each one is always a little different but I really do think this one is among the best yet.

"It will also give us a chance to show off some of the fabulous new Christmas lights we have invested in this year to really brighten up the town.”

Paul Sargent, HSBC UK local director, said: “HSBC UK is proud to be sponsoring this fantastic event, which is an innovative way of using new technology to bring the community together.

"There is so much to see in Bury and when the Christmas lights have been switched on this will give families further opportunity to explore the town and see what it has to offer. Hopefully it will mean more visitors into the centre which will be a positive thing for retailers as well.”

Interactive elements of the trail will include a greeting, the competition answer, a chance to find out about special Christmas activities in the town and – because it wouldn’t be Christmas without one – a traditional ‘cracker’ joke.

The company behind the trail is Hello Lamp Post, which is working with Our Bury St Edmunds for the first time.

Louise Barker, head of community engagement, said: “Walking around Bury when everywhere is decorated for Christmas is a joy.

"Our tech trailblazers have had such fun coming up with this festive trail. Participants of all ages will love being able to interact with everyday items and Christmas lights.”

The Christmas Trail can be found in Bury until New Year’s Eve and the prize draw will be made in January.
