Former landlords at Bury St Edmunds pub The Rose and Crown shed light on picture from past

The former landlords of a Bury St Edmunds pub have shed some light on this picture from the past.

Photography enthusiast Robert Robertson found this image in his archive of customers at The Rose and Crown, in Westgate Street, preparing for a day trip.

Following a SuffolkNews appeal, former landlords Liz and Tony Fayers made contact.

Liz’s parents John and Win Ward ran the pub at the time before retiring in 1986 and can be seen centre back at the door.

They said the picture, possibly taken between 1978 to 1980, was a customer outing and they were encouraged to bring their families along.

Liz said: “We’re guessing there were two coaches, both would have had crates in the back, and food more than likely.”

She said they knew many of those pictured.
