Formula One commentator Ben Edwards to be guest of honour at free Motorsport East car show in Bury St Edmunds town centre

A Formula One commentator will launch a new free event which will transform a town centre into a celebration of cars and motorsports.

Ben Edwards is the guest of honour at Motorsport East in Bury St Edmunds on Sunday, July 25.

More than 60 competition vehicles will be displayed in Cornhill and Buttermarket including the Porsche 911 which won the world’s first ever rallycross meeting.

The Our Bury St Edmunds event has been curated by rallycross commentator and motorsport journalist Arthur Debenham.

Mark Cordell, chief executive of Our Bury St Edmunds, said they incorporated a small motorsport display as part of the town’s Whitsun Fayre five years ago which proved popular.

“It was something we had always hoped to bring back to the town,” he said.

“I’m delighted that this year we have been able to make it happen and at about three times the size of that first display.”

It will be one of the first such shows many of the exhibitors will have been able to attend in more than a year.

Mr Cordell added: “I know enthusiasts will be keen to see the care and attention that has been lavished on the vehicles in that time.

“Although restrictions are likely to have been lifted a few days ahead of the event, keeping our visitors as safe as possible will remain a priority.”

Motorsport East will support the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Admission is free and the event runs from 10am to 4pm.
