London man Joshua Campos, 20, sentenced for drug dealing in Bury St Edmunds

A 20-year-old man who was central to a county line drug operation in Bury St Edmunds has been jailed for four years.

Joshua Campos, of Ashley Road in Thornton Heath, London, was said to be the ‘phone line controller’ of an operation. He was convicted after a trial at Swindon Crown Court this week for supplying class A drugs.

He was brought to justice after investigations in London, Suffolk, and Somerset.

PC Charlie Gates, of Avon and Somerset Police, said: "Campos paid no regard to the harm and impact he was causing in our communities and his sole motivation was to profit from his illegal activities.

“We hope this sends out a strong message out to people that county line drug dealing will not be tolerated.”

The process began in April 2020 when police searched an address in Bury, seizing a phone which contained messages about dealing class A drugs.

"It was established that Campos was the phone line controller."

Meanwhile, halfway across the country, Campos was charged in relation to drug offences in north Somerset and charged with possessing crack cocaine and diamorphine with intent to supply.

County lines drug dealing sees dealers branch out from London to establish networks in surrounding counties.

The capital’s Metropolitan Police joined with their Suffolk and Somerset counterparts in an effort to arrest Campos.

Suffolk Detective Dave Murphy said: “From the examination of the call data obtained it was established that Campos was the phone line controller.”

PC Gates added: “Our investigation stemmed from a proactive vehicle stop in May 2020, which led to a warrant being carried out at a property in Worle, north Somerset, where Campos was located and 104 wraps of class A drugs were recovered.”
