Free entry to the Bury St Edmunds Book Fair at the Athenaeum this year

Entry to the Bury St Edmunds Book Fair, taking place on April 1, will be completely free this year.

Members of the public will be able to attend free of charge and peruse the fair's range of second-hand and antique books and printed materials.

This follows a successful pilot for the free-entry model in 2022.

The event, organised by the Provincial Booksellers Fairs Association, will be open between 10am and 4pm at the Athenaeum.

It is held bi-annually in town.

The event's manager, Chris Missing, said: "The traditional model for book fairs has always been to charge admission at the door. But at the last fair we experimented with free entry, and were pleased with the number of extra customers attending.

"So, from now on, the Bury fair will be free entry."
