Free summer activities for children living in Bury St Edmunds launched by Abbeycroft Leisure
From swimming to axe throwing to wall climbing, children living in Bury St Edmunds will have a chance to try all of this and more for free this summer.
Known as ‘The Great Summer Get Together’, the free initiative was launched by Abbeycroft Leisure in partnership with Bury Town Council.
Around 40 children had a chance to try wall climbing and archery at today’s launch at the Moreton Hall Community Centre.
Frank Carn Pryor, Abbeycroft’s sports and outdoor activity officer, said: “We’re very grateful to Bury St Edmunds’ Town Council who have once again funded the summer activities for local residents.
“It’s a busy programme taking place across six locations and we’re looking forward to ensuring all eligible residents enjoy the experience of being active together.”
Anyone living in the town with postcodes IP32 and IP33 is eligible for the free activities, which are taking place at various venues across the town, including at the Moreton Hall Community Centre, Tollgate Playing Field and the Abbey Gardens.
There may be a few addresses within these postcodes that are not eligible.

Apart from swimming, axe throwing and wall climbing, children will also be able to enjoy archery, wall climbing, mountain biking, fire-lighting and outdoor cooking.
There will also be a Festival of Family Fun Day at the Bury Leisure Centre on August 16.
Councillor Diane Hind said: “We (the town council) are delighted to be able to fund these free activities for our young residents and we know that they will be enjoyed and appreciated.
“Being free it means that no one is disadvantaged from attending, and with our partners Abbeycroft, we have secured venues across the town parish.”
David Neal, father of Jessica and Oliver who attended the launch event, added: “Having these type of activities that the children have never done before is brilliant.
“We live on Moreton Hall so having something on our doorstep like this and it being free to attend is such a bonus.
“It is difficult keeping the kids active and occupied all summer and it can be expensive, so this is great."
This initiative will be running until August 31.
