Fresh plans for 60 homes off Hopton Road, Barningham, near Bury St Edmunds, lodged

Plans for 60 homes in a village have been lodged.

BSL Strategic Limited has applied to West Suffolk Council for outline planning permission for the site off Hopton Road, in Barningham, near Bury St Edmunds.

It previously wanted to build 40 homes on the same site as per an application submitted in September, but this was withdrawn at the end of October.

The latest proposals would mirror the old application’s commitment to have 40 per cent affordable housing – numbering 24 homes.

The site, which is around 2.7 hectares, is currently vacant fields.

A design and access statement described Barningham as having a range of services which are ‘characteristic of a successful local service centre’.

It highlighted the 337 and 338 bus services which run through the village.

The new homes would be accessed via Hopton Road while, once developed, it is proposed the site would have 40 per cent green space.

The design statement said a ‘tree-lined avenue’ would open the development and it would have a ‘multi-functional’ central green space.

New pedestrian and cycle routes would connect the site as a whole to the rest of the village.

There would be 120 car parking spaces in the site.

It is not known what number of bedrooms the proposed homes would have.

Another larger plot of land below the site is also in the control of the applicants.
