Bury St Edmunds Oddfellows, in Whiting Street, unveils long-awaited sign
A community group has unveiled a long-awaited sign at its Bury St Edmunds branch.
The Oddfellows, in Whiting Street, had the new sign installed last Thursday – 18 months after first submitting plans to the council.
Tony Nunn, secretary at the organisation, hopes it will help to attract more members.
“I’m pleased it has finally gone up,” said Tony. “It will help to get our name out there and let people know where and who we are.
“People will see it and think ‘who are these people’. It can only help to improve our membership.”
The Oddfellows, a friendship society, has over 1,000 members in Suffolk and more than 40,000 nationally.
The group puts on a wide range of activities in and around Bury, including coffee mornings and line dancing, to give people who maybe be on their own an opportunity to socialise and form new friendships.
Tony added: “We also offer volunteer opportunities, we fund-raise and we support our members with care and welfare as well as legal advice.”
“We appreciate it may be more difficult for people who are on their own or as they get older to make friends, but we’re and we’re a good bunch.”
