Fund-raiser launched after ‘senseless act’ of vandalism at Quality Eats café in Bury St Edmunds on Moreton Hall estate

A fund-raiser has been launched following a ‘senseless act’ of vandalism at an independent town café in Bury St Edmunds.

Danie Curd, 31, was left dismayed and frustrated after the overnight incident from Saturday to Sunday at her shop Quality Eats on the Moreton Hall estate.

Daffodils outside her shop were destroyed, wooden planks had been smashed and a number of bins at the end of a nearby footpath in Lawson Place were pushed over, with bin bags thrown or opened.

Following the incident, a GoFundMe fund-raiser has been launched by Jamie Burgis, the owner of Chinese fusion eatery WokWraps, who is a friend of Danie’s.

He said on the fund-raiser page: “As you may have seen in the Bury Free Press, our dear friend Danie, owner of a beloved local café, has unfortunately fallen victim to a senseless act of vandalism.

“The outside of her café was damaged and while it's heartbreaking to see, we know that together we can help her rebuild and restore what was damaged.

“Danie is one of the kindest, most caring individuals you'll meet. She pours her heart and soul into her business, always going the extra mile to create a warm, welcoming space for the community.

“Her café is more than just a place to grab a coffee, it's a gathering spot where friendships are made and memories are shared.”

Danie, who lives in Thurston, had previously thanked members of the community for their support and described it as ‘comforting.’

In response to the GoFundMe launch, which has raised over £250 so far, £150 short of its £400 goal, Danie said: “I am totally blown away by the kindness shown.

“Jamie is someone who I know through the hospitality industry who has become a good friend and he has kindly set up the fund-raiser without me knowing.”
