Fund-raising with a difference for NCS
Teenagers across Suffolk have been giving up their summer holidays to raise money for good causes as part of the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme.
The groups, made up of 15-17 year olds, have been tasked with organising various fundraising activities, with all money raised going towards a charity or cause of their choice within the community.
One group of 10 students held a car wash at Fornham Business Court, in Fornham St Martin, in aid of the GeeWizz charity. It also helped to plan prizes for the Ultimate Charity Auction and held a quiz night at Oakes Barn with the money raised going towards three physiotherapy sessions for Jasmine Moxson, six, who has spastic cerebral palsy.
Another team, called the Dizzy Ducks, organised a quiz night at the Old Cannon Brewery to raise money for Gatehouse. The money went towards a 1960s-style afternoon tea for the charity’s clients.
SevenSquared, made up of around 16 teenagers, staged a flash mob on Cornhill in Bury, on Tuesday which saw them perform the Cha Cha Slide dance routine to onlookers.
All money raised from the day, which also saw a bake sale and tombola stand set up in the Abbey Gardens and on Cornhill, will go towards buying supplies for Cornwallis Court, in Hospital Road.
