Lavenham Literary Festival: Ian McEwan, Ruth Jones and Pam Ayres on bill

Ian McEwan, Ruth Jones and Pam Ayres are among the big names on the bill for this year's Lavenham Literary Festival.

The sixth annual event runs from Friday, November 15, to Sunday, November 17, at the Village Hall.

Playwrite and actress Jones, who last year published her first novel Never Greener, is the guest speaker at the launch event - the Literary Festival Dinner at Lavenham’s Swan Hotel, on November 15.

She will be in conversation with author Hannah Beckerman and tickets for the event will go on sale on September 2

The main festival takes place on the Saturday and Sunday with several leading UK authors giving talks and taking part in question / answer sessions. These include: Ian McEwan, author of Atonement and On Chesil Beach; Pam Ayres; Tracy Borman and Clare Mulley.

"Local barrister Bill Clegg will talk about the headline-grabbing murderers he’s defended, Andrew Lownie discusses his biography of Lord Mountbatten with Mountbatten’s valet.

"Jessica Meyer takes a medical look at World War I, while John Higgs takes an optimistic view of the future. Duncan Campbell and Joanna Jolly compare crime, and two poets, Rebecca Goss and Pauline Stainer, will read from their collections."

There will also be workshops in writing techniques and how to get published.
