GCSE Results 2019: Tears of joy at St Benedict's Catholic School in Bury St Edmunds
Students at St Benedict's Catholic School in Bury St Edmunds cried tears of joy as they opened their exam results this morning.
Of the 121 students who sat GCSE exams at the school, 71 per cent achieved a grade 4 or above in English and maths.
Ciara Gill-Ryan was thrilled when she opened her results to see that she had achieved nine 9s and two 8s.
"I'm feeling excited. I wasn't sure what to expect but I'm very relieved now," said the 16 year old, who is from Newmarket.
She will now be going on to Hills Road Sixth Form College.
Her dad Conor added: "We'll definitely be celebrating tonight."
Pierre Hornsblow, 16, from Bury St Edmunds, achieved nine 9s, one 8, two 6s and one A* in further maths.
"I'm pleased because I put a lot of effort in and I'm kind of proud," he said.
And Pierre plans to celebrate in a unique way after buying a dingy to go sailing with.
Emily Bickers, 16, from Bury St Edmunds, was also beaming after achieving four 8s, four 7s and two 6s.
"It's crazy. I'm so relieved because it has been a whirlwind keeping up with everything but it's really good to have done well," she said.
She is staying on at the school for sixth form and plans to study journalism at university afterwards.
It was also good news for 16-year-old Harriet Green, who gained two 9 grades, five 8s, three 7s and one 6.
"I'm feeling good - so much better that I thought I would," said Harriet, who is from Bury.
"I wasn't really nervous until I walked in and looked at the results but now I can't stop smiling."
She will be staying at St Benedict's for sixth form.
Headteacher Imogen Senior said: "Once again the students at St Benedict's have achieved in the highest terms.
"These results are a culmination of many factors, but the hard work and determination of our students and the positive culture towards leaning that is promoted in the school clearly play the greatest roles.
"We hope to see many of our students continuing their successful education with us in the sixth form and wish all our students the very best of futures building on these excellent results."
