Bury St Edmunds-based chain Greene King to install charging points in pub car parks nationwide
Greene King has embarked on a project to install electric vehicle charging points in suitable sites across its pubs.
The Bury St Edmunds-based chain and brewer is looking at potential installations across the 2,700 managed and tenanted bars.
Tony Hodgson, head of estates at Greene King, said: “We’ve been working hard developing our sustainability plans as we continue to build a greener business.
“With more people buying electric cars in a bid to be more environmentally friendly, we want to support our customers who come to dine or stay with us by offering electric charging ports in our pubs that are able to do so.”
The company is working with Raw Charging and Drive Energi to install 900 chargers in the next 12 months.
This month The Churchill, in Royal Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire, kicked off the launch as the first Greene King pub with electric vehicle charging points.
The Churchill general manager Ana Carvallo said: “We’re really pleased to be able to offer our customers this added convenience whether they’ve come in to spend some time eating with us or are staying in our accommodation overnight.”
Greene King stated the decision was made on the back of increased Government support for the growth of green technologies.
Bruce Galliford, chief executive of RAW Charging, said: “In committing to host our reliable, easy-to-use, and fully contactless-payment enabled charging points, Greene King remain anchored at the heart of the local communities.”
