Bury St Edmunds brewer Greene King unveils new ale

A historic Suffolk brewery has just announced the launch of a brand-new ale which will soon be available to buy in a popular supermarket.

Greene King based in Bury St Edmunds, said that Old Master Hen, a strong and full-bodied ale, will be joining the Old Speckled Hen family ahead of Father’s Day.

The name of the ale was inspired by Ross O’Hara, Greene King’s head of strategy and production, and master brewer.

Launching Old Master Hen, Mr O’Hara said: “Old Master Hen is a proud personal accomplishment and it’s been a labour of love.

“This ale celebrates the art of brewing, from the selection of ingredients to the process of creating a truly unique product and ultimately, how a perfectly brewed ale is, in fact, a masterpiece.

“This is a beer to sip and savour and we feel the name ‘Old Master Hen’ perfectly summarises an ale that has centuries of brewing expertise under its belt and is a true gift for beer enthusiasts.”

He continued: “With Father’s Day just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to introduce a refreshing new addition to the Old Speckled Hen family that is a premium gift for any beer lover.”

Described by Greene King as the UK’s ‘number one premium ale’ Old Speckled Hen was first brewed by Morlands Brewery to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the MG car factory.

The brewing of the ale was then taken on by the Suffolk brewery.

You can now buy Old Master Hen from the Greene King Beer Cafe and from the brewery’s online shop.

From Wednesday, June 7, you will be able to buy it from Waitrose, online and in-store, during a limited two-week spell.
