Newmarket Road, Bury St Edmunds, crossroads works to repair gas leak cause gridlock




Works to repair a gas leak in a town have caused gridlock on its roads.

Suffolk Highways announced on its Facebook page that temporary traffic lights would be installed at the Newmarket Road, Bury St Edmunds, crossroads to facilitate repairs.

The stretch before the regular traffic lights on the way into Bury St Edmunds is blocked off.

Traffic entering the town from this direction now has to enter the crossroads from the side which would normally be used to exit the town.

This is causing long delays, with queues on the way into the town stretching back to the Westley roundabout,

In the other direction they are back to the Risbygate Street roundabout.

The temporary lights will be in place until the works are complete.

It is not clear when this will be.

Drivers are advised to give additional time for their journeys to allow for the delays.
