Bury St Edmunds Tour Guides launch special dog-friendly tour of Abbey Gardens and town centre
Dog owners are being invited to bring their four-legged friends on a tour of Bury St Edmunds to mark International Dog Day.
The tour, which has been organised by Bury Tour Guides, will give dog lovers a chance to discover 1,000 years of the town’s history along with their furry friends.
Taking place on Sunday, September 1, the tour is in partnership with Jon Kay, of Camp Tails, who will be on site to help ensure things run smoothly.
John Saunders, marketing officer for Bury Tour Guides, said: “Our policy is to only allow assistance dogs on tours because of issues that may arise, but we are aware that this penalises those who want to be in the company of dogs during our tours of the Abbey and town.
“To have a dedicated tour for dog lovers shows our desire to be inclusive, and if this proves popular and successful, it will assist our future thinking.
“We are extremely grateful to Jon Kay of Camp Tails Doggy Care who has given us the benefit of his extensive experience in dealing with dogs and will be on hand at the start of the tour.”
The tour was launched to also mark Bury being named as the top dog-friendly place in the country last November.
Those interested are asked to book in advance. Click here to reserve your place and to find out more about ticket prices.
The tour will kick off from the War Memorial on Angel Hill at 10.30am and will go around the Abbey Gardens before heading into the town centre. It is set to last 90 minutes.
John added that the tour is open to anyone who loves dogs, not just dog owners.
