A headteacher has spoken of her pride after students past and present helped a Bury St Edmunds primary school mark its 70th anniversary.

Tollgate Primary celebrated the birthday last Friday, and saw current pupils dress up in outfits spanning the seven decades.

Some 300 former pupils also visited the school the following day to reminisce and view old photos and artefacts.

Hannah Brookman, headteacher, said: “We are very proud to reach 70 years and we were delighted to celebrate this achievement both within school and by holding an open afternoon last Saturday.

"We spent last week looking at the history of the school and also historical events from the last 70 years, which the pupils found very interesting.”

She added: “The open afternoon gave us a wonderful opportunity to talk to past pupils and families about their recollections.”
