Honington squadron is going to ‘Tri for Jordan’
An RAF Regiment squadron from RAF Honington is taking on a 100-day challenge to raise money for one of its own.
Nine members of 1 Sqn RAF Regiment, currently deployed overseas, are in the middle of taking on their ‘Tri for Jordan’ to help Flight Sgt Jordan Brown, who was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour last year.
Cpl Thomas Cross said: “We all decided to do the challenge because FL Sgt Jordan Brown is a member of the RAF Regiment and therefore one of our many brothers in the Regiment.”
Fl Sgt Brown served for 19 years before being diagnosed with a terminal malignant oligodendroglioma tumour.
His family want to raise £350,000 for further treatment at the MD Anderson centre in Texas, USA. If that is not an option, the money will be given to charities including The Brain Tumour charity, Brain Tumour Research and Team Verrico.
The nine are attempting to cover 9,518 miles using treadmills, exercise bikes and rowing machines.
The distance is from Habbaniya in Iraq, which has strong ties to the regiment, to the Spanish port of Santander, where they will row to the small port of Cairnryan in Scotland, and then bike the remaining distance to RAF Honington via Jordan’s hometown in Dumfries, before doing the whole journey in reverse.
