St Nicholas Hospice Care in Bury St Edmunds, which supports people in Thetford and West Suffolk, sets up fundraiser run
A Suffolk hospice has launched a new 10k fundraiser run.
The St Nicholas Hospice Care 10k will raise money for St Nicholas Hospice Care in Bury St Edmunds, which supports people living with dying, death and grief across West Suffolk and Thetford.
The event will take place at 9am on Sunday, 8 October 2023, with racers taking circular route across Bury St Edmunds – setting off and finishing at Angel Hill, and running through Abbey Gardens and towards Moreton Hall.
Charlie De-Moore, the hospice’s events manager, said: “We really need people to get behind this new event.
“Our clinical teams do invaluable work, caring for people at the hospice and out in the community. To enable them to do this, we need to raise funds.
“The St Nicholas Hospice Care 10k welcomes runners of all abilities. Please join us.”
Stalls and music will be set up on Angel Hill, to help create a lively atmosphere – getting runners pumped up to start with and rewarding them at the end.
The event is supported by sponsor Jaynic and organised in collaboration with Nice Work, a professional race management team. It will be a timed race, licensed by UK Athletics.
Nicola Barber, office and marketing manager at Jaynic, is ‘really excited’ to be supporting the run.
She continued: “The hospice is there for people in West Suffolk and Thetford at the most difficult times.
“By lending our support, we hope to help the hospice raise as much as they can.”
All finishers will receive medals and post-race refreshments. A dedicated water stop will also be available at the 5k mark.

Sign-up fees are £22 for those not affiliated to UK Athletics, and £20 for those who are.
The hospice is also on the lookout for people to volunteer during the event, and needs a marshal to help ensure the smooth running of the occasion. If you could help, get in touch at: events@stnh.org.uk.
Alongside adults, St Nicholas Hospice Care provides bereavement support for children and young people through its Nicky’s Way programme. This can be accessed by any child in West Suffolk or Thetford, whether the person they have lost was connected to the hospice or not.
