Three members of a Thetford family are taking on more than 300 miles of cycling in five days to support a charity close to their hearts.

Brothers Craig, 38, and Dean Hutley, 34, will ride with father, Gary, 58, from Amsterdam to Harlow for The Annabelle Rose Foundation.

Craig and his family, who now live in Attleborough, have had support from the charity since his nine-year-old daughter Maisy, pictured, was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) at 15 months old.

He said: “The foundation has helped us so much over the years and have become really good friends of ours.

“This event is very personal for me and to be doing it with Dean and my dad has made it a real family affair.”

SMA is a genetic disorder affecting nerve cells so that muscles can’t be used and become wasted, or atrophied.

Maisy has type 2 of the condition, affecting only one in 6,000 babies a year and has no cure.

The Annabelle Rose Foundation set up by Charlotte and Wayne Burfitt, was in memory of their daughter, Annabelle Rose, who died aged seven months and 12 days with the most severe form of the condition.

Charlotte, who will also be taking part, said: “We wanted the original riders back that did our Paris to London ride three years ago and we are chuffed that Craig and Gary have rejoined us and that Dean will be with them too.”

The event starts in Amsterdam on August 21 and ends in Harlow on August 25.

Craig appreciates the tough challenges ahead, training and hitting their £4,500 target.

Donations are not only open to individual but also companies, who can sponsor the trio for £250 – which will be taken off their total, get the company’s logo put on the support cars and mentioned in all of the event’s social media.

He said: “We are so appreciative of the support we have had so far, we have a long way to go but know first-hand how the money is used, supporting so many families like ours.”
