A town’s Parkrun will celebrate its 500th event next weekend.

The celebration comes hot off the heels of the 20th birthday of Parkrun nationally.

Sue Dunne, event organiser, said the occasion will definitely feel like a landmark.

“We’ve get more people than ever coming nowadays which is really exciting,” she said.

“Every Parkrun is very much a local event, with a local team and group of people, so it will really be a celebration for our local organisers and runners.”

Sue estimates the Bury Parkrun has somewhere around 300 runners attending every week, and said it had grown exponentially since the event first started 11 years ago.

And as for why people should give Parkrun a go, she said: “Because it’s getting outside on a Saturday morning, some fresh air and exercise at your own pace.

“It’s quite a big community, lots will have been doing it for years, and people leave and come back and still enjoy it.
