'Incredible' Freddie's online fitness class raises over £1,500 for West Suffolk Hospital

An ‘incredible’ seven-year-old has raised more than £1,500 for West Suffolk Hospital staff and patients after fronting his own online fitness class.

Inspired by Joe Wicks’ workouts, Freddie Turner, of Barrow, decided to host a Facebook Live fitness session on Sunday morning – with the aim of generating £24 for the hospital’s My WiSH charity.

With help from his dad Stu, 34, who is a personal trainer, he put together a programme of exercises including squats, lunges and star jumps for the 20 minute workout filmed by his brother Ollie, nine.

He was joined by about 100 people and by Tuesday he had raised £1,530 to buy items to help patients and staff through the coronavirus crisis.

His mum Kim, 38, said: “It’s so humbling at the moment while everyone is in such a time of uncertainty that people would still be donating and being so generous.

“He absolutely loved it. He’s going to do it again this Sunday.”

Sue Smith, head of fund-raising at My WiSH, said Freddie’s money will go towards packs of essentials for staff, iPads for patients with coronavirus so they can keep in touch with loved ones and white boards to help patients with hearing problems communicate with staff.

Sue said: “Freddie is the most incredible seven-year-old and I can’t wait to meet him.”
