Inquest: 91-year-old Sylvia Bolton died days after unwitnessed fall at St Peters House in Bury St Edmunds




A 91-year-old woman who suffered an unwitnessed fall at her home in Bury St Edmunds died ten days later, an inquest has heard.

Sylvia Bolton had collapsed at the top of stairs at St Peters House in Out Risbygate on January 15.

Paramedics were called and Mrs Bolton was taken from the assisted living facility to hospital.

The inquest today (Monday) at Suffolk Coroners Court in Ipswich was told that a scan revealed that Mrs Bolton had struck her head, resulting in a bleed on the brain.

Doctors at West Suffolk Hospital consulted specialists at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge and concluded that Mrs Bolton was too frail to undergo surgery. She died on January 25.

Assistant Suffolk Coroner Dr Daniel Sharpstone said records showed that on January 14, Mrs Bolton had fallen and been found sitting on the floor but with no obvious injuries.

Dr Sharpstone recorded a conclusion that Mrs Bolton died from the consequences of a fall.
