Investigation to be launched into cause of thatched cottage fire in Great Green, Cockfield




An investigation will take place later today into the cause of a fire at a thatched cottage.

Crews were called at 3pm yesterday to the incident in Great Green, Cockfield, and at its height eight fire engines attended along with water carrier units.

Firefighters wearing breathing equipment used main jets to tackle the blaze, establish fire breaks and carry out salvage operations.

The fire was under control by 5.10pm and the incident scaled back, although heat and hot spot checks went on into the night.

The last engine left the scene at 11.30pm.

A 50-year-old man suffered a minor injury in the incident and made their own way to hospital for treatment.

The extent of damage to the building is yet to be fully established but a fire inspection is due to take place later today.

UK Power Networks, Anglian Water and the Environment Agency were notified and attended the scene during the incident to provide support.

Crews attended from Stowmarket, Sudbury, Long Melford, Clare, Bury St Edmunds, Elmswell, Ixworth and Newmarket.
