Horringer Royal British Legion standard preserved in St Leonard’s Church
A special service took place over the weekend to preserve a piece of an organisation’s history.
The Royal British Legion Horringer branch had its standard laid up in the village’s St Leonard’s Church, near Bury St Edmunds, on Sunday during the Eucharist Service.
The ceremony held a particular significance as the branch was forced to close three years ago because only one member remained.
It is customary when branches close to have the standard laid up in the local church.
Brian Thaxter, the remaining member who joined the RBL in 1986, said: "It means a lot to the residents because when I started talking to people most have a story to tell about the last war if not the Falklands War or any subsequent wars. Everybody knows somebody.
"It means something to people to have a standard to celebrate and commemorate those who have lost their lives."
Brian was a national serviceman in the RAF.
