Sneaky Links and The Evidence Room, in Brentgovel Street, Bury St Edmunds, thriving after owner Ben Cunningham able to revamp building
A town businessman has said his mini golf bar is thriving after finally being able to revamp the front of its building.
The Bury Free Press spoke with Ben Cunningham, owner of Sneaky Links and escape rooms The Evidence Room, in Brentgovel Street, Bury St Edmunds, in November about his planning debacle over not being able to paint and put new signs up for his business, which he said led people to believe it was either not open or run down.
Having worked with West Suffolk Council’s planning team, he has put his own stamp on the outside, which he said has led to an uptick in trade and a continuation of its success since moving the business from Risbygate Street.
Before the works, the front of the building had peeling, old paint and the only signs for either of the businesses were on the inside of the front windows.
Now, the bricks have been painted white, and above each door of the unit is a written sign displaying the names of the respective outlets.
He said it was ‘amazing’ to be on the other side, with the works refresh now complete.
“It’s so good, I’m ecstatic,” he said. “Everyone says it’s so much better, they think it looks great and it looks open.
“Before, people didn’t think we were open or it wasn’t ready, but now everyone knows. People are coming in, so many more walk-ins – it’s a real improvement.”
Ben said, with the debacle now over, he has been able to focus on the businesses.
The Evidence Room will soon gain a new live action escape room, while it also had a virtual reality experience.
He gave his thanks to Wayne Tanswell, the sign writer who painted the names above the doors of each unit.
“We’re just on all the normal good stuff that we do,” Ben said. “The way this has all grown and flourished over the last 18 months has been fantastic.
“It’s everything I wanted to offer the town – these cool things to do for people in Bury.”
Sneaky Links is a nine-hole mini golf course with a fully licensed bar, while The Evidence Room has three custom-built escape rooms as well as the VR experience.
