St Mary’s Church in Market Weston celebrates £100k window restoration with open day

St Mary’s Church in Market Weston welcomed villagers and supporters on Saturday morning to celebrate the completion of its £100,000 restoration project.

Through fund-raising efforts, legacies and grants, the church successfully restored all 12 of its windows and the open day celebrated this achievement with a display highlighting the project's five-year progress, alongside historic church records dating back to 1563.

The Rector Rev Cathy Bladen gave a prayer of thanks to all who played a part in the restoration and a dedication for the future.

Churchwarden Richard Chatham said: “It was fantastic to celebrate the achievement.

“This event brought together so many people and organisations who have all contributed to the project’s success.”

Villager Gerry Smith was in attendance after playing a vital role in the fund-raising as, through selling his homemade cakes and sausage rolls, he was able to contribute £30,000 to the project.

The celebration was made all the more picturesque by the bloom of thousands of spring flowers in the churchyard, creating a colourful backdrop to the day’s events.
