Bury St Edmunds engineering company Vitec confirms job losses after coronavirus hits trade
Job losses have been announced at a well-known specialist engineering company in Bury St Edmunds after the coronavirus pandemic hit trade.
Vitec, which produces camera support systems and accessories, has 'entered a period of consultation with a small number of employees' in its production solutions division including at its site in Easlea Road, Bury St Edmunds.
A company spokesman said: “Covid-19 impacted Vitec early in the pandemic and our primary focus was to protect our people and our business.
"Although our markets are recovering, there has been a significant impact on customer demand, which unfortunately means that we have had to take difficult but necessary decisions to reflect the changes in our customers’ buying behaviour.
"Regrettably, we have entered a period of consultation with a small number of employees in our production solutions division, which includes the site at Bury St Edmunds, and this will lead to the loss of some jobs.
"We have been in close contact with affected colleagues throughout this process and we are doing all we can to support them during this time."
