Kate Jackson reveals title of solo album
Kate Jackson, former lead singer of The Long Blondes, has revealed the title of her long-awaited solo album – British Road Movies.
Kate, from Bury St Edmunds, began working on the project with Suede’s main songwriter Bernard Butler back in 2009.
The album was completed in December and Kate is hoping to release it at the end of the summer.
On Saturday, Kate is performing a hometown gig at the Hunter Club in Bury St Edmunds.
“I have never played there before – it’s such a hub for great music now,” she said. “I am excited and nervous, all my friends and family are coming.
“Normally you play where nobody knows you so there’s a bit less pressure – everyone I know is going to be in the crowd.
“But we had out last practice last night and it sounded good so I’m feeling confident.”
Kate said she didn’t write ‘British Road Movies’ to a theme, the album’s title came from listening back to the tracks. “The majority of the lyrical writing was done in a short period of time in 2009 and 2010. It has just taken time to finish it all off.
“With hindsight I didn’t think when writing the album that there was a theme to it but listening back now there’s a strong motif running through everything.
“There is a strong road element to it.
“The songs are like mini movies themselves – little road movies.”
