New cyber security company in Bury St Edmunds helps firms tackle the hackers

New cyber company Labsec is the brainchild of Graham Duckworth, the co founder of IT and software company Green Duck.

Based in Technology House in Western Way, Bury St Edmunds, the service offers companies strategies and the awareness to deal with the ever growing risks facing IT.

Labsec will conduct simulated phishing campaigns, penetration testing and vulnerability scanning - in short highlight where a company is at risk of data and security breaches and how these can be made safer and be more effectively policed.

Since the introduction of general data protection regulations - GDPR - data security has become ever more important with companies facing stricter rules alongside fines for not complying.

Graham and ethical hacker Sam Rudd make up the business with access to a pool of further consultants as needed.

Sam graduated from Coventry university with a degree in ethical hacking and is CREST certified for penetration testing. He is also an Offensive Security Certified Professional.

Labsec MD, Graham, who was with Green Duck since 2002, said: “It is a very exciting and relatively new area of the industry. It is really nice to be involved with something that’s cutting edge and interesting.

“Our role is to make businesses aware of their responsibilities for the personal information they hold.”

Graham added: “People may imagine that cyber attacks are from someone in a black hoodie in a darkened room but most are automated where organisations use little programmes which trawl the internet trying to exploit vulnerabilities.

“A lot of Labsec’s service is giving a picture and a clear understanding of what that threat landscape looks like.”
