A man pushed a police officer following an argument in Ipswich, a court heard.

Harrison Jones, of Stevenson Place, Bury St Edmunds, appeared before Suffolk Magistrates' Court today, where he admitted beating an emergency worker.

He had been charged following a row in Ipswich on December 18 last year.

That evening, police officers attended an incident in which a woman had passed out in public.

The woman was accompanied by a male, and Jones – who had been out drinking – ended up in an argument with the man.

He was not known to the woman, nor to her companion, and an officer stepped in between the two men.

Following an argument, Jones pushed the officer, leading to his arrest.

During a subsequent police interview, the defendant apologised for his actions.

Accepting his remorse, magistrates today handed Jones a £450 fine.

In addition, he must pay a victim surcharge of £180, and £145 in legal costs.
