A man from Thetford has been jailed for 12 years following his second conviction for rape.

Rocky Barnes, 45, was found guilty after a trial at Ipswich Crown Court in April. He did not give evidence in his own defence.

Yesterday (Thursday) Barnes, of Canterbury Way, Thetford was brought back to court to be sentenced.

Judge John Devaux jailed Barnes for 12 years and told him that on his release from prison he will spend a further four years on licence.

Barnes was found guilty by a majority jury decision of 11 to one of rape, assault causing actual bodily harm, common assault and assault by penetration.

During his trial the jury heard that he went to the victim's home and assaulted her, grabbing her by the throat and causing her to pass out.

On another occasion, Barnes pushed the woman onto a table where he raped her.

The court heard that Barnes previously served a seven year sentence for rape and assault offences.
