Scott Lisney named locally as man who died after reported serious assault at St Olaves Shopping Precinct, on the Howard Estate, in Bury St Edmunds
A man who died after a reported serious assault in a town left him in a critical condition in hospital has been named locally.
Police were called at 8.05pm on Saturday following reports that a man in his 50s had been assaulted at the St Olaves shopping precinct, on the Howard Estate, in Bury St Edmunds.
Police have now confirmed the man has died.
He has been named locally as Scott Lisney.
A post on the Howard Estate Community Facebook page about his death attracted more than 100 comments.
Residents have called Mr Lisney ‘a character on the estate’ and a ‘kind, gentle soul’.
They described him as ‘always polite and chatty’, ‘the legend of Peyton Plaice’ and having a ‘big heart’.
The incident is being treated as a homicide investigation.
Officers are working with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to progress the investigation.
Andrew Allen, 54, of Severn Road, Bury St Edmunds, was remanded in custody at a previous hearing having been charged with grievous bodily harm.
He is next due to appear at Cambridge Crown Court on Tuesday, August 26.
