A Bury St Edmunds man has been jailed for an attack on his partner which a court heard started because of anger that his dinner was not ready.

During the incident, Christopher Woods had struck Lauren Baldwin in the face before pushing her to the floor of the house they shared in Bury.

Today (Friday) Ipswich Crown Court heard that Woods, 32, then punched Miss Baldwin four times in the stomach.

Judge Rupert Overbury jailed Woods for nine months.

The attack on August 3 ended when neighbours who heard Miss Baldwin's shouts called the police, said Daniel Taylor, prosecuting.

Mr Taylor said Woods returned home after working late and became angry because his dinner was not ready.

Woods pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm and breaching a suspended prison sentence.

Last year, he was made the subject of a 12 week sentence suspended for one year after putting his hands around a neighbour's throat.
