Massive fire service response to blaze at British Sugar factory in Bury St Edmunds
An investigation is underway into the cause of a blaze at the British Sugar factory in Bury St Edmunds which attracted a massive response from the fire service.
Fifteen crews from across multiple counties rushed to the incident at the factory, in Hollow Road, after Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 3.50pm.
A spokesman said the fire was in the processing plant and involved conveyor belt systems.
The affected area was 30 metres x 30 metres covering multiple floors.
The gas for the building was isolated and there were no casualties.
At 5.04pm, the seat of the fire had been extinguished and crews tackled hotspots.

The incident was dealt with by 5.43pm.
In a tweet, a fire service spokesman said: "Thanks to swift intervention by both SFRS and British Sugar firefighters the incident was dealt with quickly."
The fire crews called included three from Cambridge, two from Thetford, one from Woodbridge, one from Sudbury, two from Haverhill, one from Wickhambrook, two from Bury St Edmunds, two from Ixworth and one from Newmarket.
Police were made aware of the incident but did not attend.
Andy Simms, site general manager at British Sugar, said the fire was at the drying area of the factory.
"The fire was quickly localised and with the support of the Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service the area is now safe and the fire has been extinguished," he said.
"We are thankful that no one was injured.
"The factory continues to operate normally and we will now undertake a full investigation into the cause of the fire."
