Mayor of Thetford throws down challenge to young community helpers

The Mayor of Thetford is challenging young people of the town to ‘stand up and be counted’ for their good work in the community.

Councillor Roy Brame set up the Mayor’s Challenge to give recognition to those helping others.

He said: “It came about by a bit of embarrassment really, in my role as county councillor I was invited to the presentation day of the Norfolk Challenge, which does the same thing but for the county, and found that no one from Thetford had put themselves forward.”

“So now, as mayor, I want to show the really positive things that are going on in the town.”

The challenge is open to anyone between the ages of eight to 21 and cash prizes will be given for the most helpful and innovative community projects in Thetford over three categories- eight to 12, 13-16 and 17 to 21 year-olds.

He said: “I want all the young groups in the town to know I am prepared to come and talk to them so that we can show the great work they are doing in the town.”

Winners will be invited to a reception held by the mayor on April 26 next year.
